Amateur solo artists
and small ensembles are invited to apply for a “busking” slot at this year's
Harrogate Christmas Market in the Montpellier Quarter from Thursday 14th
November to Sunday 17th November 2019.
Talented musicians and singers have been performing live at the event since
2012, entertaining visitors with seasonal sounds whilst at the same time
collecting donations – either for a local charity or to support their artistic
development and instrument fund.
Last year, an estimated 80,000 people came to Harrogate Christmas Market and
enjoyed listening to a range of talent to suit all tastes. From Steel and Rock
bands to a Ukulele Ensemble plus individual instrumentalists playing saxophone,
trombone, violin and acoustic guitar, there was something for everyone. Added to
this, amazing vocalists including an acapella male choir, a classical soloist
and the Harrogate Gilbert and Sullivan Society hugely added to the festive
fun. Many are returning to play again this year, but there are still some slots
available during Thursday and Friday daytime.
Marian Farrar of St Aidan’s High School, who is organising the busking schedule,
said: “It’s a great way for singers or instrumentalists to share their talents
and introduce their music to both a local audience and our thousands of
visitors, whilst also creating a wonderful seasonal atmosphere within the Market
“Soloists or ensembles can apply for one or several, hour long time slots and
they will be able to collect donations from visitors during their performance if
they wish. This year their music will be amplified across the whole market and
musicians will also be offered a voucher for a FREE hot drink from a nearby tea
& coffee stall!”
Now in its eighth year, Harrogate Christmas Market is proving more popular than
ever with both traders and visitors. The 200 spaces for traders have sold out
and interest in the four-day event is at its highest yet, with many coach
operators set to bring visitors to the Market from across the UK.
Any musicians interested in performing on either the Thursday or Friday of
Harrogate Christmas Market 2019 should email Marian Farrar at
